Red Rocks Garage Mk IV Roadster
Supplementary technical data
The pages listed here is a set of information and technical data that support the Mk IV build. It should be of general utility for anyone building a car.
- AN to SAE Conversion: Tubing O.D., SAE thread size and NPT pipe size as a function of AN size.
- Blueprint/TKX Installation FAQ: Created for F5 but contains a lot of information of general interest for an engine install.
- Brake balance v. deceleration: A graph, based on a discussion by Walker (2007), on the relative effectiveness of balance bars and proportioning valves for controlling front brake bias as a function of deceleration (g).
- Brake system calculations. A frame grab of a spreadsheet that I created to calculte stopping distance of a Mk IV based on the braking system characteristics. Also, a link to the functioning Excel spreadsheet.
- Cherry-Q rivet grip: I used Cherry-Q structural rivets and this table summarizes my rivet selection based on the parts being clamped.
- Drill bit decimal equivalent: e.g., what size is a #30 drill bit in decimal inches?
- Electrical harness, by Ron Francis: A good compendium of the harness information. I made a number of modifications to the original configuration. In addition, I used Classic Instruments gauges.
- Fasteners and fittings: Short discussions of the some of the fasteners and fittings that I used, including rivets, Rivnuts and Clecos.
- Fastener type chart: From the Bolt Depot
- Fastener basics: From the Bolt Depot
- Fluid line clamp spacing. Maximum spacing as a function of fluid line (e.g., brake line) size. From Hot Rod magazine.
- Koni shock adjustment guide: For the Series 30 shock
- Particularly useful tools:
- Road and Track (2013) data used for developing the 0 to 60 acceleration times as a funciton of HP / wt. ratio.
- Roadster user manual: Data specific to my build (e.g.., VIN, serial numbers), a maintenance schedule, torque specs and so on. [To Come]
- Switch diagrams: Useful photos and schematics for the various switch types, e.g., single pole double throw (SPDT); from Littlefuse.
- Tap and clearance drill sizes: Appropriate hole and drill sizes for tapping and clearance holes: SAE.
- Tools purchased: A listing of the tools that I used for the construction of the roadster.
- Torque specs: Factory Five. From the construction manual.
- Torque specs: SAE Grade 8. From the Portland Bolt and Manufacturing Co. website.
- Tremec TKX service manual. Says it all.
- Wilwood balance bar adjustment: The roadster has Wilwood balance bars but this explanation from Tilton is better I think.
